The Expert

An expert has special expert knowledge. He helps the court to assess questions of proof and evidence. The court remains solely responsible for the legal analysis. In particular, experts are consulted on medical matters, for example, to determine the cause or time of death, but also with regard to the question whether the offender was criminally liable at the time he committed the crime.

To prove the credibility of a witness an experts report may also be obtained.

What are the responsibilities of an expert?
The expert has to appear in court, deliver his report and take an oath (if applicable). He has to present his report in the main proceedings.
